Current Event: This should be done at home as it will take you a while to complete. Start Tuesday night and print before coming to class on Friday.

You will need several sheets of paper. Make a list of the 50 persons that The Verge noted changed our lives in 2013.
You may want to use a table in a Word Document to compile all the data. Include the following:

Save it in your folder and title it "The Verge 50." Due Friday 5/2/14, Remember current events are due in the first 2-3 minutes of class. Since we are presenting out PPTs on Thursday and Friday, you will not be on the computers between Wednesday and Monday. Use your time wisely.

1. Use your your Excel file Titled "Music Preferences.".
2. Complete a thorough analysis of the data. Some questions you may ask are: Does age factor into your results? Is there any agreement among the participants? Within a genre, do participants agree or disagree? Do girls and boys have similar or different preferences? Other findings? There are many other questions you could ask depending our your data.

3. Make several charts to represent your data. You might be able to show some data better in a table rather than a chart.
4. Write a short summary of your findings (2-3 sentences).
5. Now, use your charts and summary to explaing your findings in a PPT. Save your PPT as "Music Survey" in your folder. Be prepared to present your findings to the class for a grade by the end of class Wednesday.

1. Read through this tutorial on creating charts in Excel

2. Open a blank word document.
3. Save it as "Graph Imports from Excel to Word."

4. In this assignment, you are an employee of a company called, "Test Solutions." You are writing a letter to your boss, Mr. Nononsense Getresults asking for a pay raise based on the test performance of the workers in your department. You should use charts demonstrating the performance of your workers on various skills tests. This should be a professional looking letter with no flowery borders, etc. Keep it all business.

5. Now go back into Excel and Create the charts you will use in your letter to plead your case to Mr. Getresults.
Your charts should include:
a. names of workers
b. tests
c. test scores
d. a title for each graph

6. Now write your letter.
In your letter, be sure to include:
a. Your name and return address
b. Mr. Getresults name and address
c. a business professional greeting
d. a short letter stating your case
e. charts to help plead your case
f. a closing and signature

7. Now import your charts to support your case. You will need to figure out how to move the charts from Excel into work and keep the formatting. Due Wednesday 4/23/14.

9. Assignment #2 For this assignment you will need to complete a music survey. You will need the following data for you charts:
a. First and Last Name and Age of 20 Chiles High School students. They cannot be a member of this 5th period class. (This is easy because all high school students think they are music experts.)
b. Favorite genre of music (ie. Rock, Jazz, Classical, etc.)
c. Favorite artist within that genre.
d. Favorite Song from that artist.

10. Now enter your data in an Excel doc and title it "Music Preferences." Save it in your folder. Due Friday 4/25/14. We will do more with this next week.

1. Create the following Excel Document. It should contain all the data in this PDF. Save it as "CCCMail" in Excel.
You will need this data to complete this week's assignment.
2. Now open the Mail Merge Tutorial. Follow each step carefully. http://www.addictivetips.com/microsoft-office/word-2010-mail-merge/
3. Once you've gone through the Tutorial, and think you understand the process of a mail merge from an Excel File into a word letter, open a Word Document and save it as "Mail Merge from Excel into Word."
4. You will be creating a letter to the people in your CCCMail file telling them they are being fired today.
In your letter, you need to tell they why they are being fired and how to go about getting their final paycheck, including when to pick it up and who to pick in up from.
5. Be sure to include a greeting and a closing to the letter along with the company's name. (You may use a form letter for Microsoft or write one of your own.
6. After you've finished the merge, Save your letter in a PDF file titled Merge from Excel to Word in PDF and put it in your 4th Nine weeks folder. Due Wednesday 4/16/14.

Place each item on their due date. Use the complete name of the assignments from Pinpoint. You will need to adjust the size of the box or the text size. Be sure that is it is legible.
Step 2: Open a word Document and save your calendar in a one page word document.
Step 3. Print your word Document as a PDF and save it as "Calendar Saved in Word" in your 4th nine weeks folder. Due Friday. This assignment should be the last item included on your calendar.

2. Create a one page Publisher document. Create 3 separate text boxes. Link each of the 3 text boxes so that the text will run into the next text box. Create a half-page typed story, using a font size of 14pt Times New Roman, about something that happened to you when you were younger that made a difference in your life. Add pictures to illustrate your story.
Now adjust each sentence to a different font size. Sentence 1 20pt courier in italics; Sentence 2 12pt Comic Sans MS underlined; Sentence 3 16pt Arial Black Bold; For each of the remaining sentences, use a different font and effect. Due Thursday 4/3/14.

Current Event Article Directions Due Every Friday
The "Current Event" assignment is due every Friday during the 2-3 minutes of class (students have the assignment completed prior to arriving to class); late work will not be graded. The assignment consists of: 1) Go online and locate a current article about some type current technology. 2) Print the entire article out on white paper. Do not do Step #2. 3) Read the article you have selected for comprehension. 4) On a sheet of notebook paper, write a summary of the article that is legible and at minimum of 1/2 one side of a sheet of 8.5 x 11 paper (fold in half to see if you have enough written). 5) Staple your summary to the print-out of the article and make sure your name is on the assignment. 6) Place on Mr. German's desk during the 2-3 minutes of class every Friday.
